The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has successfully completed the Brickwood Reserve Track Upgrade Project, delivering safer, more accessible and environmentally sustainable pathways for the community to enjoy.
Delivered as part of the PTA Offset Agreement, the project involved the rehabilitation and upgrade of more than three kilometres of the reserve's walking track network. Works included trimming, reshaping, compaction and the application of fresh limestone to create a firm, stable and accessible surface for visitors.
The completed upgrade has transformed sections of track that had become degraded over time, significantly improving accessibility, functionality and the overall visitor experience. The enhanced network provides safer and more reliable access for walkers while supporting use by people of a broader range of abilities.
In addition to the recreational benefits, the project delivers important environmental outcomes. By clearly defining the designated trail network, the upgraded tracks encourage visitors to remain on established paths, reducing informal track creation, minimising impacts on surrounding native vegetation and helping protect the reserve's ecological values.
The improved trail network will also support the long-term management of Brickwood Reserve by concentrating pedestrian movement within established access corridors and reducing ongoing maintenance requirements.
The project represents a strong investment in community infrastructure, improving public safety and ensuring the reserve continues to meet contemporary accessibility standards. It also supports the Shire's commitment to maintaining high-quality public assets for residents and visitors alike.
Feedback from residents and regular reserve users has been overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the improved condition, accessibility and appearance of the tracks.
The successful completion of the project ensures Brickwood Reserve will continue to provide a high-quality recreational experience while balancing accessibility, environmental protection and long-term sustainability.
