Construction has officially started on Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct, with the first ground broken by Hugh Jones MLA, representing the Minister for Sport and Recreation, and Shire President Rob Coales.

They were joined on site in Mundijong at an official ceremony by Shire CEO Paul Martin, the construction team, developers and community members, marking the first stage of the Shire’s landmark community infrastructure project.

The start of works follows the award of a $25.7 million construction contract to CivCon Civil and Project Management in March for the 63-hectare precinct.

Stage 1 of Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct will deliver:

  • Two community sporting ovals
  • Cricket practice nets
  • A 1,500sqm pavilion with change rooms and a covered viewing area
  • Three car parks (213 parking bays)

The $35.2 million project is supported by $22 million in State Government funding, along with       $10.6 million in Developer Contributions and $2.6 million from the Shire.

Construction is expected to be complete by December 2027.

“Sporting precincts form such an important part of our communities, particularly in our suburbs.

“These improvements will be a significant boost to the Serpentine-Jarrahdale community with a range of sport and recreation facilities that will benefit active lifestyles.

“This precinct is much needed by this growing community and our government is committed to supporting these types of developments that support local needs.”

Comments attributed to Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:

“Facilities and projects like this not only support healthier lifestyles through sport and physical activity, they also bring people together and create a sense of community.

“Once complete, this precinct will fast become a thriving and bustling community hub and I know locals and community groups across Serpentine-Jarrahdale are eagerly anticipating these transformative upgrades.”

Comments attributable to Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale President Rob Coales:

“Today marks a major milestone for our community. Breaking the first ground at Keirnan Park isn’t just the start of construction, it’s the beginning of something much bigger.

“This precinct will become a place where local families gather, kids play sport, our sporting clubs grow stronger, and connections are built.

“We’ve worked hard to get to this point, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see the vision starting to take shape.

“I want to thank everyone who’s played a part in getting us here, particularly local member for Darling Range, Hugh Jones MLA, who has provided tremendous support.

“This is a proud moment for the Shire and an exciting step forward for our growing community.”
