Main Roads WA manages the following major roads within the Shire:
- South Western Highway
- Thomas Road
- Tonkin Highway

Which roads are managed by the Shire?
The Shire is responsible for maintaining local roads under its care and control.

What road maintenance does the Shire carry out?
The Shire’s Operations Team undertakes regular road maintenance, including:
- road shoulder maintenance and repairs
- grading and re-sheeting of gravel roads
- pothole repairs
- kerb repairs
- footpath repairs.
This does not include roads managed by Main Roads WA.
What are capital works?
Capital works are larger infrastructure projects funded through the Shire’s annual budget and, in some cases, external grants.
These works can include:
- drainage renewals
- footpath programs
- bridge construction
- road resurfacing
- road renewals and resealing
- road reconstruction.
Capital works are considered as part of the Shire’s annual budget process before approved projects proceed to delivery.
How many kilometres of roads does the Shire maintain?
The Shire maintains approximately 661 kilometres of sealed roads and 148 kilometres of unsealed roads.
