Staying well and connected
Finding ways to look after ourselves and keeping a routine is important as we adjust to change. Try out one of the activities below.
- Get out in the garden - do some tidying up or simply relax and watch the insects and birds. Tip: Landcare SJ has some great planting guides for choosing local, native and low flammability species.
- Start a gratitude diary - write down one thing you are grateful for every day.
- Do a little exercise every day – walking, yoga, pilates or dancing. Tip: Although the gyms may be closed, there is still plenty you can do at home. Check out YMCAs “The Y at Home” page for all ages and fitness levels.
- Get creative – draw, paint, crochet or sew.
- Play some music or practice an instrument. Tip: WAM (West Australian Music) has some great playlists put together by WA music organisations, musicians and music-lovers.
- Spend time with people you care about – check out the Houseparty app which allows up to 8 people to video chat at once.
- Surprise someone and send some snail mail - write a letter or card to post.
- Try the Cookbook Carousel! Each week choose a cookbook and make something new. Tip: The Government’s Eat for Health website has a wide selection of healthy recipes and tips for eating well.
- Keep your brain active with jigsaws, games and crosswords.
- Take a break from the news - choose a reputable source and decide what time of day you get updates.
