Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Centre now open Sundays

Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale residents will now be able to access the Watkins Road Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Centre four days a week after the Shire was granted approval to operate the facility on Sundays.

Securing a license to open on Sundays follows months of noise assessments carried out by the Shire alongside Acoustic Consultants Australia, to ensure no excessive noise would affect nearby residents.

Sunday hours were part of the Shire’s initial plan for the Watkins Road Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Centre, however the facility needed to be fully operational before noise assessments could be undertaken.

Now operating on Sundays, Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the additional hours would be welcomed news by many residents.

“We know from our initial community consultation in our planning for the facility that 63 per cent of 574 respondents supported Sunday opening hours.

“Since the opening of the Watkins Road Waste Transfer Station and Recycling Centre last November, we have been working through the required application process to operate the facility on Sundays.

“It is fantastic news that approval for this request has been granted by the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation and we look forward to welcoming residents to the facility on Sundays.”

The facility’s opening hours are 7.30am – 6.30pm Thursday – Saturdays (last entry 6.15pm) and 9am – 5pm (last entry 4.45pm) on Sundays. The facility is closed on public holidays.

A free Trailer Hire Service, Free On Demand Waste Collection Service and Fee Payable On Demand Waste Collection Service is also available to Shire residents.
