The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has welcomed the announcement by the State Government of the preferred location for the future Byford Train Station, as well as pre-works to remove the level crossing at Thomas Road.

The McGowan Government has announced a business case for the 8km rail extension from Armadale Train Station to the Byford Town centre has been finalised, with the preferred street-level Byford Station to be built adjacent to the emerging Byford Town Centre.

Shire President Michelle Rich said the finalisation of the Byford rail extension business case marked a significant milestone.

“The delivery of the future Byford rail extension, and a station located in the heart of the Byford, aligns with our long-term vision for a vibrant and connected town centre,” Cr Rich said.

“With nearly two families moving to the Shire each day, the delivery of Byford Metronet will help connect our community to jobs and opportunities that are so important for the many young couples seeking to build their first house in Serpentine Jarrahdale.

“We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with the State Government, Metronet and our community to progress this important project.”

Cr Rich said the Shire also welcomed the announcement for pre-works to commence on the level crossing removal at Thomas Road, which will involve a road-over-rail bridge.

“The Shire has long been advocating for upgrades to improve the safety of Thomas Road, including the complete duplication from South Western Highway to the Kwinana Freeway,” Cr Rich said.

“We hope this work is the catalyst for further investment in upgrades to Thomas Road to support future traffic volumes.”
