The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale welcomes the road safety election commitment from the WA Liberals.

Shadow Transport Minister Libby Mettam and Darling Range MLA Alyssa Hayden committed a future Liberal Government to $26 million to widen and upgrade the following four key roads in the Shire:

-                  Elliott Road;

-                  Hopeland Road;

-                  Kargotich Road; and

-                  Orton Road.

Shire President Michelle Rich said that the announcements from both major parties in the past fortnight was testament to the extensive advocacy work that the Shire had undertaken to bring urgently needed State funding to the growing Serpentine Jarrahdale region.

Last week Premier Mark McGowan and Transport Minister Rita Saffioti committed a future Labor Government to $18 million to widen and upgrade three key roads in the Shire.

“To meet the growing needs of our Shire, we have a comprehensive list of priorities endorsed by Council which aims to maximise investment from all levels of government across a range of priorities,” Cr Rich said.

“The four roads announced by the WA Liberals have been identified by the Shire as priority roads for upgrade.

“Road safety consistently rates as one of the highest community needs, as our ageing road network is not suitable for increased traffic.

“Your Council continues to work hard in advocating for community needs with all parties contesting the State Election, so we continue to grow a safer road network, together.”

Other Shire priorities for the WA State Election include a Nature Play Splash Park in Byford and Trails development in Jarrahdale.
