The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale hosted the Peel Development Commission (PDC) Board on Wednesday, 23 October, to provide an update on the Shire’s key advocacy projects.

Shire President and PDC Board member Michelle Rich said it was great to host the Board in the region so they could see first-hand the Shire’s priorities, which were of local and regional significance.

The presentation to the Board included:

• The Shire’s preferred location for the Byford Metronet Station, which is a grade separated station at Abernethy Road;
• Tonkin Highway extension and advocacy for additional grade separations at Thomas Road, Orton Road and Mundijong Road;
• Freight line rail realignment to support the West Mundijong Industrial Area and Mundijong Smart City initiative, ideally to occur at the same time as the Tonkin Highway extension;
• Keirnan Park Recreation Precinct Stage 1, which includes two AFL/cricket ovals, 12 netball courts and two pavilions; and
• Master planning for Jarrahdale Oval and Jarrahdale Trails Town.

Cr Rich and Shire Chief Executive Officer Paul Martin also took the Board members on a bus tour so they could see the projects and locations first-hand.

Cr Rich said the delivery of these critical infrastructure projects needed to keep pace with the Shire’s population growth.

“As the fastest growing local government in WA, this growth has brought many positive changes to our region and has helped promote us as a vibrant and attractive place for people to live, work and play,” Cr Rich said.

“It has also brought the challenge of delivering important services and facilities to support the needs of our diverse communities, while protecting our natural environment and maintaining the character of the Shire.”

Cr Rich said the Shire would continue to work in partnership with the PDC to achieve shared outcomes for the region.

“We will continue to advocate for these projects, which will support social and economic growth in the Shire, while ensuring we achieve the best planning outcomes,” Cr Rich said.

“I would like to thank the PDC Board members and staff for their attendance and ongoing support, and I look forward to continuing our work to deliver positive outcomes for the Peel region.”
