Serpentine Jarrahdale Council resolves to lodge election invalidity complaint

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Council held a Special Council Meeting on Wednesday, 10 November, to formally consider irregularities associated with the 2021 ordinary local government election in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale North Ward.

Council was presented with an overview of issues relating to the election in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale North Ward, correspondence received from the Western Australian Electoral Commission and independent legal advice with potential options open to Council.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the most important consideration was to protect the integrity of the democratic process.

“Council has voted unanimously to make an invalidity complaint pertaining to the 2021 ordinary local government election in the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale North Ward,” Cr Rich said.

“Council is committed to maintaining the community’s confidence in the Council and the Shire’s reputation.”
