The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Council adopted its 2021-22 Budget at a Special Council Meeting on Wednesday, 28 July, 2021.

The Budget represents a 1.69 per cent increase in the Shire’s rate revenue.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the Budget represented a balance of continuing to deliver important programs, projects and services for our growing community, while recognising the financial pressures experienced by households and businesses as we continue our recovery from COVID-19.

“The Council has worked hard to identify savings and efficiencies across the organisation, while ensuring we remain responsive to community needs and priorities,” Cr Rich said.

“We know that one of our community’s key priorities is improving the safety and standard of our local road network.

“To help address this priority, the Budget includes $3.65 million for 9 road upgrades as well as a record investment in our Road Reseal Program, with $1.05 million allocated to reseal 24 roads throughout the Shire.

“This year we are also undertaking planning and design works for $18 million in State Government funded upgrades for Kargotich, Orton and Soldiers roads, with construction scheduled for 2022/23.

Delivering on the Shire’s strategic vision of “city living offering a rural lifestyle with abundant opportunities for a diverse community”, the Budget also includes spending on community events and programs, parks and community facilities, environment and major projects while also planning for the future.

“Over the past 12 months the Shire has been extremely successful in receiving external funding for a range of projects, and this Budget will see some of these projects delivered with the planning and design commencing for others,” Cr Rich said.

“The delivery of the projects, programs and services in the 2021/22 Budget will allow the Shire to continue to grow a stronger and connected community, together.”
