Residents encouraged to have their say on phone and internet issues

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is seeking feedback from residents about issues they are experiencing with their phone and internet connection and coverage.

A survey has been launched to understand telecommunications issues experienced by residents – from receiving and making calls to internet speed - with the results to be sent to local State and Federal MPs representing the region.

Shire President Michelle Rich said while the Shire was not responsible for telecommunication infrastructure, it was committed to advocating on behalf of its residents.

“It is critical that everyone has access to reliable phone and internet services, but we are aware that people in our community are experiencing issues, which is why we want to hear from as many people as possible,” Cr Rich said.

“The Shire has been discussing this issue for the past few months with our Federal Member for Canning, Andrew Hastie.

“We agreed that by working together it would help put the spotlight on this critical issue for our community.”

Cr Rich said the survey feedback would then be presented to Mr Hastie and other local politicians to highlight the need for improvements to telecommunications infrastructure within the Shire.

“The Shire is committed to working with our State and Federal MPs on shared issues and priorities, and we hope we can get a positive outcome for our community on this issue,” Cr Rich said.

The survey closes 5pm, Thursday, 18 June.
