Four of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s most dedicated green thumbs have been named winners of the 2021 SJ Garden Competition.

This year’s competition – which followed on from a successful inaugural event in 2020 – saw entries received across four categories including the Rural, Native/Waterwise, Edible and Commercial garden.

The 2021 SJ Garden Competition winners are:

CATEGORY

WINNER

Native/Waterwise Garden

Winearls family of Darling Downs

Rural Garden

Ron Iannello of Jarrahdale

Edible Garden

Julie and Gary Richards of Cardup

Commercial Garden

Dome Byford

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the competition was the perfect way to recognise the wonderful gardens throughout Serpentine Jarrahdale.

“These four gardens all create a beautiful space involving diverse colours, and it was great to see the standard of our inaugural competition in 2020 remains just as high this time around,” Cr Rich said.

“We are lucky enough to enjoy a tremendous bushland backdrop here in SJ, and it’s always amazing to see how this is weaved into our local gardens.

“Congratulations to our winners, runners up and everyone who entered this year’s SJ Garden Competition.”

The winners of each category received a $200 voucher sponsored by a local gardening business.

This year’s sponsors included Australian Native Nursery, Mundijong Garden Supplies and Hire, Forestvale Trees, Aussie Organics, SJ Plant Supply and Mineral Magic.

The Shire acknowledges and thanks all of our sponsors for their support for the 2021 SJ Garden Competition.
