The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s Friendly Neighbourhoods Grant has helped a group of Keysbrook residents raise $4000 for Cancer Council WA.

Keysbrook resident Josephine Cudmore said she used a $250 Friendly Neighbourhoods Grant to host a Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea event in memory of their friend and community member Marie Gallin.

Keysbrook resident Josephine Cudmore said used a $250 Friendly Neighbourhoods Grant to host a Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea event.

“For many years now, we have had a Cancer Council cuppa supper in Keysbrook and raised funds for them,” Ms Cudmore said. “Marie was an avid supporter of this.

“With the challenging year it has been with COVID-19, and also no funeral for Marie, which I believe was her wish, we wanted to do something to get the community together and remember Marie. So this was the perfect way.”

The grant was used to buy food and catering for the morning tea, which also included a silent auction for handmade items donated for the fundraiser.

Ms Cudmore thanked the Shire for the Friendly Neighbourhoods Grant and encouraged other residents to consider how they could use a grant to bring their neighbourhood together.

The Friendly Neighbourhoods Grant is open to individuals and local community groups to apply for financial assistance towards the costs associated with hosting an event or activity, that will foster these neighbourhood connections.

Grants up to $250.00 (ex GST) per financial year are available all year round while funds remain.
