The outstanding contributions of local firefighting and SES volunteers were honoured recently at the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s 2021 Emergency Services Volunteer Awards Evening.

At the ceremony held on Friday, 24 June, more than 50 volunteers were recognised for achieving significant milestones for their volunteer service, including Serpentine Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade’s Ray Elliott, who notched a remarkable 50 years of service in 2021.

Alongside his outstanding commitment to the Serpentine brigade, Ray has also been involved in several fellow community organisations over the years including the Serpentine Primary School P&C and Hopeland Community Association.

He has been a Fire Control Officer since 2006 and was awarded the Clem Kentish Community Service Award in 2015.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich congratulated all who were honoured on the night and thanked them for their service to the community.

“Our volunteers play a crucial role in keeping our community safe,” Cr Rich said.

“Their selflessness, hard work and commitment to the Serpentine Jarrahdale area set a magnificent example for the rest of us to follow.

“Congratulations to all those who were presented with certificates on the night and thank you for all that you do for our community.”

Several awards were also presented to those who had gone the extra mile in what has been a challenging 12 months for local Emergency Services teams.
