Decisions from the November Ordinary Council Meeting
On Monday, 18 November, the first Ordinary Council Meeting of the new Council was held. Below is a snapshot of some of the items discussed, and decisions made.

Access and Inclusion
The Access and Inclusion Shire Facilities Priority Works Plan was endorsed by Council, which outlines 85 priority remedial works to improve accessibility across Shire facilities. You can read the Works Plan here.
Community Emergency Services Manager opportunity
Council endorsed community and stakeholder engagement to be carried out to receive feedback on the proposal to establish a Community Emergency Services Manager role.
The role is a joint resource between a Local Government and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to deliver emergency services functions. To learn more and to have your say on the proposal here before Monday, 2 December.
Jarrahdale Road widening
Improved road safety on Jarrahdale Road is a step closer after the Council awarded a tender to widen Jarrahdale Road, which is being funded by the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program.
Remote Civils Australia was awardedTender RFT 03/2019 to the value of $449,541.40 excluding GST for the widening of Jarrahdale Road, between Kingsbury Drive and Farina Road.
Cardup Siding Road widening
Road safety will be improved on Cardup Siding Road with shoulder widening to be carried out between Culham Vista and Macleod Close. Council awardedQuote RFQ13/2019 to RCA Civil Group at a cost of $200,340.50 excluding GST to complete the works.
Councillor appointments to Rivers Regional Council
The Rivers Regional Council is responsible for planning long-term waste management strategies, identifying issues associated with waste management and lobbying on behalf of the seven member Councils in the general field of waste management.
Each member Council has two voting delegates andCouncil appointed Cr Morgan Byas and Cr Bill Denholm as its voting delegates. Cr Lauren Strange and Cr Rob Coales were appointed as deputies.
Strategic Communications Plan and Brand Style Guide
The Council endorsed the Strategic Communications Plan and Brand Style Guide to guide the Shire’s efforts to implement consistent, innovative and targeted communications.
A new communications positioning: Growing Together, was also endorsed. The messaging will focus on creating awareness of the “Growing Together” initiative to facilitate understanding and acceptance of our values, and by bringing unity and advocacy with our diverse community.
Amendment to Lighting Fees and Charges for 2019/2020 Financial Year
Council approved the addition of an additional fee within the 2019/2020 Schedule of Fees and Charges for sports lighting to reflect the new lighting system installed at Briggs Park. This is to ensure an accurate and equitable charge is applied for usage across all light levels at all sporting reserves where sports lighting is provided.
Byford Tennis Courts Renewal
Council has provided in-principle support the need to resurface of the asphalt and acrylic layers of the Byford Tennis Courts and resolved to consider the project as part of the Corporate Business Plan Review Process, including considerations of external funding options for the project.
