COVID-19 and Council Meetings

Published on Friday, 3 April 2020 at 9:09:03 AM

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in changes to the way Council Meetings can be conducted.

In accordance with Regulation 14D of the Local Government (Administration) Regulation 1996, during a declared public health emergency or state emergency, a Council meeting can be conducted electronically.

The Shire may hold Council Meetings via electronic means for the duration of the declared State of Emergency and a Public Health Emergency in response to COVID-19.

Electronic meetings are not open to the public and in accordance with health laws, the public gallery at the Shire’s Civic Centre will be closed.

At this stage, recordings of the meetings will not be made available. The Shire is investigating this and will be presenting options for Council’s consideration in the near future.

Minutes of the meeting will continue to be made available within statutory timeframes.

Public questions / statements

Persons wishing to ask a question or make a statement at a meeting are requested to submit their questions via email to info@sjshire.wa.gov.au.  Public questions and statements must be provided prior to 2pm on the meeting date.

You are not required to attend to have your question or statement heard.

Deputation

A deputation is a presentation made to Council or a Committee. A deputation is most often regarding a matter that is scheduled for consideration by Council at that meeting.

A deputation must not exceed 15 minutes in duration.

A request to make a deputation to Council must be made in writing to the Chief Executive Officer at least 3 working days prior to the meeting.

Persons approved to provide a deputation will be provided a link to access the electronic meeting remotely to provide their deputation.  Persons applying to provide a deputation should ensure that they have access to a computer and suitable internet connection.

Minutes

In accordance with Regulation 13 of the Local Government (Administration) Regulation 1996, unconfirmed minutes are available within 10 business days of a Council Meeting and within 5 business days of a Committee meeting.
