Serpentine Jarrahdale Council has approved more than $1.5 million to improve the standard and safety of three roads within the Shire as part of its continued focus of investing in road upgrades.
At its June Ordinary Council Meeting, the Council approved three tenders for the following works:

The Hopeland and Elliot Road rehabilitation works involve re-construction of the roads, while the Abernethy and Kargotich Road intersection improvement works involve installing two slow points on Abernethy Road, removing roadside hazards, installing advisory signs, and installing street lighting at the intersection.
Shire President Michelle Rich said the rehabilitation works were made possible with grant funding provided through the Federal Government’s Road to Recovery Program. Meanwhile, the State Government provided a two-third contribution via the Metropolitan Regional Road Group Improvement Program the for the Abernethy Road works, with the Shire contributing the remaining one-third.
Cr Rich said the works were part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to provide a safe road environment for residents and visitors.
“On behalf of Council and our community I would like to thank the Federal and State Governments for the funding, which has made these important works possible,” Cr Rich said.
“We know that there is still a lot of work to be done to improve our local road network and we will continue to work with our local State and Federal politicians to secure funding so we can upgrade more local roads.”
Cr Rich said the Council was committed to delivering on community priorities and would continue to advocate for State and Federal Government funding for its Hyper-growth Road Upgrades, which identified 18 road upgrade projects valued at $25 million.
