Residents are invited to share stories from the past six decades which will help form an online campaign to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Serpentine Jarrahdale being officially gazetted as a Shire.

Serpentine Jarrahdale was officially gazetted as a Shire on 1 July, 1961, following its previous status as a Roads District.

This July, the Shire will run an online campaign titled “Stories of SJ – Celebrating 60 years as a Shire”.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said the Shire’s 60-year anniversary was a great opportunity to celebrate the people, community groups, places and events which have shaped our region.

“To be able to tell those stories, we need to hear from our community,” Cr Rich said.

“This is a lovely opportunity for our community to celebrate our achievements and reflect on how far we’ve come,” Cr Rich said.

“While we have a great community history collection through our own records, we know there are many important stories that are yet to be told.

“We hope to unearth some of those stories and include them in our online campaign.”

Story idea submissions are open until Sunday, 13 June, 2021.
