The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has welcomed two recent announcements which show bipartisan support to grow the region’s local tourism industry. 

Deputy Liberal Leader Libby Mettam MLA and Darling Range MLA Alyssa Hayden have committed a future Liberal Government to spending $325,000 to fund a trailhead at Jarrahdale Oval, which is in addition to a previous commitment of $1 million for the Byford Trail & Visitor Centre by the WA Liberals.

Both of these initiatives were identified by the Shire in its 2021 WA State Election Priorities and Requests.

Hugh Jones, Labor’s candidate for Darling Range, committed a re-elected Labor Government to invest $40,000 for new signage along the Jarrahdale Heritage Town Walk and a new public toilet at the head of the Kitty’s Gorge Trail.

Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said investment in trails development and activation was a key election priority identified by Council.

“We welcome these funding commitments from the major political parties as we work to grow and enhance our local trails and tourism industry, together,” Cr Rich said.

“Domestic tourism has never been more important, with Western Australians looking to their own backyards for holiday ideas.

“For both locals and visitors from around Perth wanting a day trip to enjoy our pristine natural surrounds, Jarrahdale needs this type of investment to cater for the increased usage of our beautiful trails and the wider Perth Hills tourism region.

“With more people comes more opportunity for tourism businesses to grow.”
