The last section of Abernethy Road to be upgraded is the level crossing. The level crossing is owned and managed by the Public Transport Authority. The work involves rail replacement, new pedestrian crossing, rail boom gates and signals and road widening to dual lanes.

For the past eight months the Shire has been working with the Public Transport Authority to get approval on site and safety plans to carry out the upgrade works. We recognise that the delay in completing the final works for Abernethy Road is frustrating.

The Shire shares in the community’s frustration of the time taken to achieve approval to work on Public Transport Authority land. The Shire is doing everything possible to get the plans approved, and ultimately, as a matter of urgency, complete the level crossing upgrade.

We will provide a further update on specific dates and timelines when relevant advice and approvals are issued to the Shire from the Public Transport Authority
