0% rate increase endorsed for preparation of 2020/21 Shire Budget

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale Council has approved its 2020/21 Budget be developed with a 0% rate increase following a Special Council Meeting tonight.

With the COVID-19 pandemic presenting unprecedented challenges for everyone in the community, Shire President Michelle Rich said the Council was committed to providing support and relief to residents and businesses.

“These are extraordinary times and we know that many households and businesses in the Shire are doing it tough,” Cr Rich said.

“With tonight’s decision to have the 2020/21 Shire Budget developed with a 0% rate increase, we hope this provides ratepayers with certainty regarding their next rates notice.”

The Shire will also provide donations of up to $5000 to community groups and/or not for-profit organisations who are responding directly to community need in Serpentine Jarrahdale as a result of the COVID-19 emergency.

“As we face these challenging times together, we want to make sure our community groups and not-for-profit organisations can continue to provide the help and support within our community to those in need,” Cr Rich.

The Shire’s ongoing response to COVID-19 is being coordinated by its Local Emergency Management Committee, with a focus on community wellbeing and economic recovery.
