Kargotich Road - Notification of Downgrade Category RAV 3 to RAV 1
Closed: 16 February 2019 12:00am
In an effort to reduce heavy haulage impact on the pavement and on road and traffic safety on Kargotich Road, the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale planned to downgrade the section of Kargotich Road between Thomas Road and Rowley Road from the Restricted Access Vehicles (RAV) network. Currently, that section of the road is included in the RAV network category that allows vehicles with maximum length of 27.5m and a maximum mass of 84 ton to operate on the road.
The decision of downgrading the road to a non RAV road steams from the high number of crashes experience at the intersection of Thomas Road and Kargotich Road over the last five years. The high number of crashes attracted a Western Australia State Black Spot grant funding to improve the intersection and traffic safety of Kargotich Road. Some of the improvement solutions recommended are a roundabout at the intersection and the downgrading of Kargotich Road north of the intersection to a non RAV road.
One of the other benefits to downgrading the section of Kargotich Rad north of Thomas Road is preventing RAV vehicles using that section of Thomas Road as rat-run to access Tonkin Highway, and reduce heavy traffic noise.
The Shire is here seeking feedback from residents of Kargotich Road and all affected road users on the implication of downgrading of Kargotich Road- North of Thomas Road from RAV road.
