Jarrahdale Entry Statement

Public Notice.

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is seeking to engage an artist to design, develop and construct a new entry statement for the town of Jarrahdale. It should accurately represent the community of Jarrahdale while also acknowledging the history and culture of the area. The Shire is currently reviewing preliminary concepts for the new entry statement.

The commission fee for this project is $13,000 (ex GST).

Submissions for the preliminary design closed on Wednesday, 12 June 2019.

The Shire’s Public Art Assessment Panel will now review the submissions, with selected artists requested to take their designs further before seeking community feedback.

The Panel includes Shire officers, a Council representative and a community representative.

It is anticipated that the artist will be commissioned in September, with installation of the new entry statement scheduled to be completed by December 2019.

Why is the Shire replacing the Jarrahdale entry statement sign?

The old timber entry statement was deemed to be at the end of useful life following a regular asset assessment carried out by the Shire in early 2018. Following this assessment, the Shire has determined to replace the entry statement sign.Council allocated $18,000 to the project in July 2018.

At the end of the Request for Proposal period, a Public Art Assessment Panelmade up of Shire Officers, a Council representative and a community representative, will shortlist three artists, community members will be able to score and comment on the shortlisted concept designs.

Will the community have a chance to be involved in the selection process?

Yes. The community will be able to score and comment on the shortlisted concept designs to help inform the final decision.

How much will the new entry statement cost?

Council allocated $18,000 in its 2018-19 budget for the project. The commission fee for this project is $13,000 (ex GST). The remainder of the budget has been allocated to artist shortlisting fees (total $2,250) and indirect project costs such as advertising, contract royalties and contingency.

When will the sign be replaced?

It is anticipated that the artist will be commissioned in September, with installation of the new entry statement scheduled to be completed by December 2019.
