Recovery

Recovery activities support emergency-affected communities in reconstruction of the physical infrastructure and restoration of emotional, social, economic and physical well being.

During recovery operations, actions are taken to minimise the reocurrence of the hazard and/or lessen its effects on the community.

Recovering from an emergency is a very traumatic experience. It is in these times that our families and friends play a critical role in helping us all to recover.

Community resilience is something that we all need to work together to achieve - it is our community after all.

Develop support networks within your streets and communities to be there for each other and provide support before during and after emergencies.

So what do you have in place to help you and your families recover from an emergency? How well you plan for recovery will depend on how quickly you and your family get back to normality of your day-to-day activities.

Some questions to ask yourself

  • What if you have lost your house and all your belongings? What would you do?
  • Where would you go?
  • Were you insured enough to cover everything?
  • What temporary accommodation do you have in place for you and your family?
  • What if you have been injured? What income protection do you have in place for your family?

In a major emergency the Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire will set up a recovery committee to assist in getting the community back to a sense of normality. The committee will coordinate the community recovery programs, appeal programs and grant opportunities that may become available.

Council's Emergency Services team can provide advice to assist you with your enquiries, please call 9526 1111.

Information of the establishment of the committee will be published during an emergency with appropriate contact details.
