Serpentine Jarrahdale Food Alliance launches its showcase book
Food and Farms In the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.
Serpentine Jarrahdale Food & Farm Alliance Inc. Press Release
Over 150 people enjoyed food and local beverages as stories and experiences garnered in developing the book showcasing local foods and farms were shared. Millbrook Winery provided the venue and their chef, Guy Jeffreys, prepared the wonderful food donated by local producers.
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has, over many years, asked people to “experience the beauty” and this book takes that to the next level asking that we 'experience the beauty... AND the bounty”. The book reveals many farms and farmers that produce high quality food; restaurants that produce meals of the highest quality; and, unique ways the local product is used.
Producers in the Shire create awarding winning yoghurt, cheeses, and olive oils. Recently Guy Jeffreys, chef at Millbrook Winery, was awarded Chef of the year for WA.
Guests included producers and farmers showcased in the book; Andrew Hastie, MP for the Federal seat of Canning; Pierre Yang, MLC for the South Metropolitan Region; Michelle Rich, President of the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale; representatives of neighbouring local governments and state agencies; and, many supporters of local food and farming.
The book represents the start of a new era of raising awareness about the importance of local food, increasing the social and economic status of our food producers, and celebrating the natural and great biodiversity within the Shire that enhances the quality of our local food.
