Road Works in the Shire
Repairs, rehabilitation and construction.
The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale is the fastest growing locality in Western Australia and with the growth in population brings an increase in road traffic.
The Shire will be repairing and rehabilitating roads in various locations within Serpentine Jarrahdale over the next couple of months.
One of these is Richardson Street, which is the main traffic route into Serpentine from Mundijong. The Shire is working in conjunction with Main Roads Western Australia to ensure the safety and integrity of the timber bridge.
Works are expected to begin soon and will include the replacement of much of the timber structure with a steel structure, routine maintenance and the construction of slabs on approach. This will increase the bridge life and maintain the weight loading of the bridge so it can continue to be used by a wide range of vehicles.
The total cost of repairs to the Richardson Street Bridge is $500,000 of which two thirds will be funded by the Federal Government and one third from Main Roads Western Australia.
The Shire is also commencing road rehabilitation works on a section of Gossage Road in Oldbury with road construction commencing in May. These works will take place between Kargotich Road and Gossage Road Bridge are expected to be completed in July 2017.
The tender to commence the construction of Abernethy Road has now been awarded with the first portion of road construction and trenching commencing in early July from Kardan Boulevard to Soldiers Road.
Shire President Cr John Erren said ‘These works are important to our road networks in the Shire and we remind you to be patient and leave extra journey time when travelling.’
