Rates 2018/2019

We have big plans for 2018/19 and beyond that include significant work to be done across community infrastructure, public open space, and operations and construction.

In 2016/17, the Shire underwent our innovative SJ Real Choices initiative which gave residents insight into Council’s budgeting process and allowed them the opportunity to help us set future budget priorities.

This financial year, some of the great things we did for our community were:

  • Installed a new cricket practice net at Briggs Park in Byford and recarpeted the existing four to expand the facilities available to our sporting groups
  • Installed static water supply tanks in Jarrahdale to assist our Volunteer Fire Brigades in the event of an emergency
  • Installed a Library self-service machine and a new Library management system to improve customer access to our Library services
  • Established the West Mundijong Industrial Area to enable investment into the future of our local economy
  • Upgraded Elliot Road in Keysbrook to provide a wider and safer road for our residents
  • Provided a Summer Series of events across the Shire to encourage you to be healthy and active

We have big plans for 2018/19 and beyond that include significant work to be done across community infrastructure, public open space, and operations and construction.

In order to make this possible, Council has proposed an overall increase in rates of 4.97%. This will add up to an additional $1.1M in rates revenue for us to spend locally.

Council has also proposed to rearrange differential rating categories to reduce the percentage increase to homeowners. This will mean that average households will see an increase of approximately 3.57% which equates to $1.13 a week.

This will mean that we will deliver projects like:

  • Upgrading the Briggs Park Lower Oval so that you can enjoy it all year round, day or night – estimated total cost $4,528,000
  • Replacing the old and damaged water supply pipeline and bio-waste system at the Serpentine Sports Reserve to enable better use of the facility – estimated total cost $75,000
  • Extend the footpath on Keirnan Street from the Whitby estate to link  Soliders Road so our children can get to school safely – estimate total cost $50,000
