Need to keep weeds down on your front verge?

Have you ever thought about creating your own wildlife corridor?

Or just want more birds around your garden?

The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale free verge plant and herbicide scheme can help you achieve these ends. The scheme is available for all residents of SJ who can apply for up to four years to receive native seedlings of their choice under the guidelines of the program, with a litre of herbicide to keep those weeds in check and prepare the ground for planting.

The scheme, managed by Landcare SJ and monitored by the Roadside Care Volunteers, has been operating for fifteen years, resulting in some beautiful native verge gardens throughout the Shire. The scheme is particularly helpful for those in rural areas, however urban residents can also apply.

For more information, contact the Landcare Centre at , phone 9526 0012 or access the application form here.

Applications close June 30.

If you do live in an urban area, you could also apply for an advanced street tree or two on your verge. Street trees make such a difference to our community. From lowering air temperatures around homes to reducing noise and storm-water runoff, they also add to the character of our unique area. Residents are eligible to have a street tree supplied and planted at their property. If you would like a street tree, please email the Shire at or call on 9526 1111.
