The Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale has approved the application for an extractive industry licence and development for a site in Hopeland Road.

The development application has been approved by the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale for a five year period for sand extraction, subject to various conditions.

Sand extraction is anticipated to be completed within a five year period and rehabilitation of the site will be undertaken at the conclusion of each stage of the project.

Shire President Cr John Erren said Council had recommended to approve the application, “Sand is increasingly required locally, as well as throughout the State, for land development.”

The recent stakeholder consultation indicated some of the key issues to be considered included dust and noise control, possible impact on lifestyle and the hours of operations.

“Officers have assessed the application and are satisfied that development issues can be adequately managed through proper planning conditions.” Cr Erren said.

Council’s approval of the proposal will now be taken into consideration as the WA Planning Commission makes their decision.
