Do your Firebreaks still comply?
Residents are encouraged to check their firebreaks and take action to maintain compliance with the Shire’s Firebreak Notice.
Recent rains and milder weather has caused many firebreaks to be covered by grasses and vegetation, known as regrowth.
Warmer weather forecast for the remainder of the summer period means that once grasses dry out, firebreaks will be ineffective.
Residents are encouraged to check their firebreaks and take action to maintain compliance with the Shire's Firebreak Notice.
Firebreaks are a legal requirement and must maintained through to 31 May each and every year, in accordance with the Shire's Firebreak Notice issued under the Bush Fires Act 1954.
Firebreak inspectors will continue to inspect and take action throughout this period.
This is an example of non-compliant firebreaks due to regrowth.
Taking action now can be the difference between saving or losing your property to fire.
