Green light for Byford Skate Park
Stage 1 of the Byford Skate Park is complete, with the park now open for use.
Local youth were involved in the design of the skate park, which offers ledge combos and a split-level quarter pipe and was constructed by Carving Concrete Skateparks through a competitive tender process. Stage 1 of the project shows an investment of $346,000 in infrastructure for the youth in our community, and provides a greatly anticipated outdoor recreation opportunity for all ages.
Shire President Cr John Erren said that the Skate Park is another step towards creating spaces for our local youth to engage with our community in a positive way.
“The Skate Park forms part of the exciting Briggs Park precinct which includes the SJ Community Recreation Centre, Briggs Park oval and the SJ Youth Room,” Cr Erren said. “Involving our kids in the design of their own space enables them to take ownership of it.”
Stage 2 of the facility, which includes the installation of safety lighting, a shade structure, seating, and a drinking fountain, is being partly funded by the Peel Development Commission through the Peel Community Chest Fund as part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development’s Royalties for Regions program. Work for this project will soon be underway. The community will be invited to drop in and celebrate the long-awaited project in style, with an official community event and skate workshops to follow.
