Business leaders have been given a special insight into the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale’s investment potential as part of moves to grow the local economy and create future jobs.
Representatives from around 20 companies were in the Shire last week for a special tour hosted by Shire President Cr Michelle Rich. The event was designed to increase awareness of the Shire as an investment destination, with a focus on attracting businesses in the tourism and eco-tourism sectors.
The three-hour tour took the visiting delegation past the West Mundijong Industrial Area and Cardup Business Park, through Byford and to Jarrahdale – an area marked as a future tourism hotspot.
Shire President Cr Michelle Rich said raising awareness of the economic advantages within the Shire was an important first step towards creating new jobs and more opportunities for residents.
“These tours are a really effective means of selling the Shire to business leaders and allowing them to see the benefits of establishing themselves locally,” Cr Rich said.
“It was particularly encouraging to see the level of excitement in Jarrahdale as a growing tourism destination. Our visitors were especially interested in the area’s heritage and potential for things like eco-tourism, glamping and adventure tourism.
“It’s no secret our population is growing rapidly, which places an even greater need on developing a strong, diverse local economy. As a Shire, we’re approaching this challenge head-on to make sure that future generations are able to not only live, but also work locally.
“We’re also focussed on ensuring economic growth doesn’t conflict with our environmental values and continue to pay close attention to environmental stewardship through our planning processes.”
