Local Emergency Management Committee
In 2005 the State Government introduced a new Emergency Management Act which required local governments to ensure that a Local Emergency Management Committee is established and emergency management arrangements be maintained.
The Local Emergency Management Committee is a formal committee of the Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire and has functions to:
- ensure that effective local emergency management arrangements are prepared and maintained for its district
- manage recovery following an emergency affecting the community in its district
- perform other functions given to the local government under the Act
The Local Emergency Management Committee is made up of local emergency services and key community interest groups. It has put in place the following vision and mission statements to guide them through the process of emergency management.

- For a well coordinated multi-agency emergency services approach to prevention, preparedness, response and recovery
- To promote partnerships and teamwork within all facets of emergency management
- Coordinated multi-agency approach to emergency risk management
- Coordinated multi-agency response to all Incidents
- Coordinated multi-agency recovery management response
- Conduct and Promote multi-agency cross training
- Promote community involvement and education in:
- Risk management activities and processes
- Risk mitigation and reduction
- Community awareness programs
