It is the responsibility of the stock owner to contain livestock within their property boundaries. The containment of livestock is imperative for the safety of the community and to reduce the spread of disease and infection.
This is an issue which takes up significant time and resources of Council's Ranger Services and WA Police Service. These incidents pose a significant danger to the public travelling on roads and in most cases are preventable by the provision of sufficient, appropriate and well maintained fences.
Again, this issue takes up considerable time and resources of Council Rangers and is often the cause of neighbour disputes and can be prevented by adequate fencing.
Under statutory law, all livestock is required to be identified by either branding, earmarking and by July 2005 all cattle are required to have a Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID).
Ranger Services enforce the provisions of a number of statutes and local law provisions relating to livestock which include impounding of offending stock, on the spot fines or legal action.
