Community Group Insurance

It is important that all community groups have public liability and volunteer workers insurance cover. In some instances, community groups either do not have insurance cover or find the cost of insurance prohibitive.

The Shire has developed a program to enable eligible community groups to obtain insurance cover at no cost, unless in the unlikely event that their premium is above the capped level where they would pay the balance.

The Shire's insurer Local Government Insurance Services (LGIS) has a community group insurance program which will cover community groups for general public liability and volunteer workers insurance. The program is different to a normal insurance policy where the cover is taken out through the Shire and the Shire purchases insurance cover ‘in bulk'. Council will consider a budget allocation each year to cover the cost of this insurance.
