Butterfly ProjectThere is a new program for girls only in the Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire called the Butterfly Project.

The Butterfly Project is a youth development initiative, developed in partnership with the Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire, for girls (10 – 13 years) and young women (ages 14 – 16) which provides unique learning opportunities for personal development and community participation. Currently the program is only available for girls living within the Serpentine Jarrahdale Shire.

The project runs during school holidays and selected weekends through the year. Within each term there will be a selected theme which will 'flavour' the activities for the term. This allows participants time for reflection and to build upon previous learning experiences, thus making the activities more positive and meaningful.

The objective of the project is to create in participants a wider sense of community connectedness and sense of belonging through a program of diverse activities and events designed by the girls and young women themselves.

  • Promotion of citizenship, developing social awareness through community involvement
  • Provide opportunities for fun and friendship
  • Promotion of the Virtues Project model for character building
  • Advocating a healthy life style
  • Encourage experiential learning

Objectives

  • To improve Butterfly Project's 'Girls' personal development through active participation in activities during the school holiday period and other weekends throughout the year
  • To reinforce positive behaviour in participants
  • To encourage Butterfly Project's 'Girls' to participate in positive leisure and recreational activities
  • For Butterfly Project's 'Girls' to report an improvement in their self-esteem
